"Asking the ocean about temperature and salinity: Pre-stack full-waveform inversion of multi-channel seismic data in the Gulf of Cadiz." by Daniel Dagnino, Institute of Marine Sciences, will be held at room Sala d'Actes of Institut de Ciencies del Mar (ICM - www.icm.csic.es).

ABSTRACT:
In this talk I will present the progress in the adjoint-state full-waveform inversion (FWI) on the water layer in order to obtain temperature and salinity models. I will explain the new methodology we have developed in the group to apply the FWI using acoustic data with a low signal-to-noise ration. Finally, we will see a FWI application to pre-stack MCS data acquired in the Gulf of Cadiz in 2006 in the framework of the EU GO (Geophysical Oceanography) project. We will check the inverted models comparing the temperature and salinity models with measurements from eXpendable Bathy Thermographs (XBT) and conductivity-temperature-depth (CTD) probes deployed simultaneously to the MCS data acquisition.
